Inspiring interaction

International links

Here at Pathfield School we are fortunate to have received an International School Award for our links with Nangina School in West Kenya, near the Uganda border.

Pathfield has been able to arrange three exchange visits for staff from both schools to enable us to share expertise and experience.

Nangina Special School

Aged between five and 19-years, the Nangina School’s 106 pupils all have a range of difficulties including, hearing and sight impairments and/or learning difficulties.

The eight hour school day begins at 8am with the pupils split between 8 classrooms. Temperatures during the day reach 30°c – making studying conditions difficult as the school has no air conditioning, very little ventilation and an extremely dusty atmosphere.

Nangina is in West Kenya, close to the Ugandan border and Lake Victoria. 75% of its pupils are orphans and 60 board at the school.

Four members of staff from Pathfield have now visited the Nangina School three times, with Nangina staff visiting Pathfield twice.

Funding for the trips came from the Connecting Classrooms initiative – a programme run by the British Council.
